People often ask, “How did you become a tour guide?” My story begins in 2019 when I sold my business, initially dreaming of a quiet retirement. However, a trip to London with my wife, Maria, sparked a new chapter. We joined a walking tour that ignited my love for history, connecting with people, and working in the great outdoors. It was a perfect fit!
Back in Torquay, I learned the town’s only full-time tour guide had retired. Seizing the opportunity, I designed five unique Torquay-themed walks, including a special Agatha Christie Guided Walking Tour. It’s an honour to share the extraordinary life story of Agatha Christie, the world’s best-selling novelist, with visitors.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the first Fawlty Towers episode, I’m thrilled to introduce The Fawlty Tours Walking Experience in 2025. This tour celebrates the iconic British sitcom, revealing how a stay at a Torquay hotel inspired comedy gold.
Each year, I clock around 4 million steps leading guided walking tours, equivalent to walking from Torquay to John O’Groats while sharing stories! It’s not just the tales that make these tours unforgettable; it’s the stunning scenery. We wander along beaches, hidden tracks, and winding coastal paths, with breathtaking views across Paignton and Brixham. The English Riviera is truly a walker’s paradise.
Join me for a memorable experience and discover why English Riviera Walking Tours is rated among the top things to do in Torbay. Whether you’re a history buff, a sitcom fan, or simply love exploring beautiful landscapes, there’s a tour for you. Come along and see Torquay through my eyes!
