Best of Babbacombe
This circular walk meets by the wishing well in front of Babbacombe Theatre. See photo
The route takes the steep road down to Babbacombe beach, along the coast path to Oddicombe, before catching the Cliff Railway back to The Downs.
We follow the main road, through St Marychurch, via Tessier Gardens and Cary Park, returning to the theatre.
For every walker that join us, £1.00 will be donated to the South West Coast Path in support of their efforts in maintaining this wonderful route.

We spent two nights in Babbacombe and did this walking tour on our first day -- but it was so good we booked a second tour for our final day.... read more The second one was the Agatha Christie themed tour and it was utterly fascinating - we learnt about every element of her life whilst seeing the beautiful sights of Torquay. The guide, Graham, was extremely friendly, informative and was full of stories that were the perfect balance of entertaining and informative. Highly recommended, whatever your fitness level.
When I initially considered doing the English Rivera walking tours I was unsure what the day would be like as the last time I visited Torquay it was a fleeting... read more visit and was not somewhere I would have considered to go to for a holiday. I can honestly say from the walking tour my opinion on Torquay has completed changed. Seeing and hearing about the history of Torquay changed my perspective on this beautiful place. Not only would I come back from another incredible walking touring but I have booked to come back and stay at one of the spa hotels for a holiday. I would recommend anyone coming to Torquay to take part in a walking tour!
I am sitting here this evening having spent three hours with Graham this afternoon. My husband and I are still talking about this fabulous Agatha Christie walk.
From the initial... read more booking I knew it was going to be a good tour. Graham kept in touch with plans, with a checking "all still on" message the day before. We met as arranged exactly on time and having done the introductions set off. We were the only two on the talk, which meant we were able to exchange far more stories than being in a bigger group. It soon became apparent that Graham was both knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. Armed with a folder of photographs and quotes we made our way along the seafront stopping to hear details of Agatha's life.
We didn't know a great deal about her as a person, mainly our knowledge came from Poirot reruns on TV. But for us, the details were exactly at the right level, enough to be interesting without being a sermon of dates and facts.
three hours flew by. We had swapped stories, deviated a bit off topic (our doing mainly!) and had quite a few laughs. Even if you are not the biggest Agatha fan you will certainly get something from this. She was definitely a very interesting woman and we have been convinced that she requires more recognition for her pioneering attitude.
We have been on very many walks in towns and cities across the world and Graham was up there with the best.
As every reviewer has written Graham is an outstanding guide. My wife and I took the Agatha Christie tour on Sept 23rd and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we have read... read more a few of her novels the majority of our knowledge of her works comes from TV and film. However, as a result of Graham's tour we have both promised to rectify that. We found Graham to be extremely informative but also presented the information as if we were friends out for an afternoon walk in a very relaxed, small group. Graham took us around a number of locations which we had already seen during out stay but had no idea what they actually were which was an added bonus for us. At the end of the tour he was also kind enough to spend some time with us discussing the best places to eat and visit for the remainder of our stay. Therefore, I would recommend Graham as being an essential part of anyone's stay in Torquay and will be going on another tour with him when we return. His tour was definitely a highlight of our stay. Thank you!!
The tour was lovely and it made appreciate te beauty of Torquay more and understand te extraordinary life of Agata Christie . The views are stunning but get comfy shoes... read more as you walk a bit ;)!
Graham is lovely guy and we really enojoy his company .
Our tour, called 'Timeless Torquay', took us along the beautiful Torquay coastline, taking just under a couple of hours - although it felt like it went by quicker than that!... read more Graham, our tour guide, narrated our walk with stories about everything from Agatha Christie to the evacuees of WW2 and came across very knowledgeable. Although we thought we knew a bit about the area already, we were surprised at how much more we learnt! Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to find out more Torquay and the surrounding area! We hope to do another one of the tours in the near future.
Graham didn’t just take us on a walk but rather a historical adventure around Babbacombe. From the first step he related interesting information about the people and places that lived... read more or visited this delightful coastal town through the ages. Featuring Oscar Wilde, John Lee and Queen Victoria’s lady in waiting, to name but a few; Graham told fascinating stories whilst we walked down to and along Oddicombe Beach. The funicular railway brought us back to Babbacombe and the end of our tour. It was fun and informative and for that we highly recommend and thank Graham.
I went on a tour of Babbacombe with some friends while we were on holiday and it was absolutely amazing! Not only was the scenery fantastic but our tour guide,... read more Graham, was really knowledgeable and friendly. We really recommend his tours and can’t wait to do more in the future!
Did the Bay tour away from torquay itself but came back to do a bit of torquay on the way back though. This is great for checking out the hidden... read more delights of Torquay such as the Osborne Hotel, Cove Beaches away from the town and the castal path towards the end is a treat but be prepared to climb some steps to enjoy the view from up high - it's worth the effort though and take your camera for some great views to snap.
